Converting Science News for the Web

Abstract:
With the Internet emerging as a primary newsgathering source, many traditional media outlets have converted their products for online viewing. This paper explores how two science news magazines, New Scientist and Science News, have approached this challenge. Elements of hyptertext theory are also included.

Section 1, Introduction, provides context for the paper.
Section 2, Challenges for old and new media, explores background and theory of hypertext conversion.
Section 3, Text conversion, looks at the specific strategies these two magazines used for converting their content for the web.
Section 4, Navigation elements, examines how each site approaches navigation issues.
Section 5, Hypertext possibilities, explores the magazines' utilization of features only available in the hypertext environment.
